About Us
Welcome to one of Whanganui’s top bed and breakfast spots!
I (Kathy) have spent my entire life in Whanganui and Allan made the move from Auckland a few years ago when we tied the knot. We share many interests and hobbies together including gardening and music. We both have a special passion for brass music and are both active members of the local brass band.
Now that we are semi-retired, we have developed a new love for overseas travel and try to get away as much as possible to explore the world.
We love meeting new people and thrive on making your stay at Charmae Guest House as homely and comfortable as possible.

Allan and Kathy are wonderful hosts who made us feel very welcome and they have provided a wonderful house for people to stay in. The house is in a fantastic location, close to everything but it is also quiet been off the main roads. I loved pottering in the kitchen on Christmas Day and everything was there I needed to cook up a Christmas dinner for our friends. The outdoor area at the back of the house is perfect for sitting back and relaxing and the lounge is really comfortable to sit back in and watch a bit of telly. The house is plenty big enough to accommodate groups of people but still enable you to have your own space. We had a couple of very good nights sleep whilst we were here which for us is important as we were there for motorbike racing on Boxing Day. The parking for our trailer with our bikes etc was great and also secure. Allan and Kathy were also really accommodating with us leaving late on our check-out day even though they had another arriving that afternoon. We loved staying here so much we have booked again for next year and I want to stay a little bit longer as it really is the perfect home away from home.
Allan welcomed us very warmly and was most kind to us throughout our stay. The house was impeccable, spacious and pleasant to spend time in. In more clement weather, there is no doubt that the verandahs would also provide a lovely space to be in. The house is within walking distance from the centre of the city, and not far at all from the spectacular Whanganui River. We would very much recommend it to friends and family. Lovely and charming house next to the owner's place. We stayed there for 1 night but wished to stay more. Allan & Kathy gave us a warm welcome and accepted our quite late arrival. Very fancy, big, and new house with a nice kitchen and all that you need. Ideal for a long stay with family or friends as you have everything you need for nice holidays (shelves, full kitchen, laundry, patio...). Also very convenient for a short stay as we did. The WiFi from the owner's house doesn't work that well but as it's new and finishing the settlement it should be sorted out soon.
